Homeless College Student? We can help.

BWC to Place College Students in Short-Term Airbnb Housing

Bill Wilson Center, San José Mayor Sam Liccardo and San José State University joined Airbnb in launching a first-of-its-kind partnership-in-the-country to provide a community-based solution that will offer free, temporary housing to college students experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.

The partnership is working to ensure students have housing over the holiday season.

Students’ short-term stays will range between a few days to a few weeks and up to several months — as determined by individual need — while BWC works to identify a long-term, stable housing solution for participating students. The center will use existing federal, state, and local funding sources to cover the short-term rents.

Public, Private Partners Vow to House 100 Homeless College Students in 100 Days

Santa Clara County stakeholders join the national call to action as leaders from Bill Wilson Center, San Jose State University, West Valley-Mission Community College District, and County of Santa Clara Supervisor Susan Ellenberg come together to tackle college student homelessness through the 100-Day Challenge.

“The 100-Day Challenge focuses our community to step up and house the increasing number of homeless college students in Silicon Valley,” said Sparky Harlan, Bill Wilson Center CEO.

The goal of this effort is to house 100 college students experiencing homelessness in 100 days by working with a multitude of stakeholders and service providers to connect students with available resources. (READ MORE)
